Advancing women’s careers in engineering
In higher education, women are still substantially underrepresented in engineering and technology. UCAS data on university application and acceptance rates for the 2020 cycle1 revealed that women constitute only 16% and 18% of accepted applicants for computer science and engineering degrees, respectively. With the current rate of advancement, women will not attain parity in engineering degrees until 2085. We cannot wait until then.

Scholarship Benefits
These scholarships aim to combat underrepresentation and speed up the rate of progress. They will award successful women applicants with a financial support package worth £5,000 per year for up to four years of study to cover university-related expenses, such as tuition fees or living expenses.
By removing a portion of the financial obstacles that may hinder university studies and job progression, grantees can remain dedicated to their courses and have the best possible opportunity of success.
Awardees will also have unique access to networking groups where they may meet positive role models, communicate with like peers, create long-term relationships, and take advantage of collaboration opportunities.
The Royal Academy of Engineering is devoted to diversity and inclusion and encourages applications from all underrepresented engineering groups.
The Academy’s policy is to ensure that no applicant is discriminated against or treated less favourably due to age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation.
We would want to help you find a balance between your personal and professional obligations. We are willing to discuss your specific needs and to consider part-time and other flexible employment options.
