The Association of Banks in Singapore administers the Dr. Goh Keng Swee (GKS) Scholarship, a private sector scholarship (ABS).
It was established by the Singaporean financial community in honour of former Deputy Prime Minister Dr. Goh Keng Swee, who promoted Singapore’s economic development and expansion as a recognised worldwide financial centre.
Each year, three to four meritorious students from 15 Asia Pacific economies (Brunei, Cambodia, China, Hong Kong SAR, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam) are awarded scholarships to pursue undergraduate studies at the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and Singapore Management University (SMU) (SUTD). Applicants will perform a three-year obligation after completing their education.

About the Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS)
The Association of Banks in Singapore (ABS) is a non-profit organisation that represents the commercial and investment banking community in Singapore. As of 31 January 2021, our membership consisted of 154 Singapore-based local and foreign banks/institutions and representative offices.

Scholarship Benefits
The scholarship provides funding for up to four years of undergraduate study (may include Honours). It consists of the following:
- Tuition and other mandatory costs;
- Transportation (to Singapore and back to the native nation upon conclusion of studies);
- Yearly allowance for upkeep of $6,500;
- Hostel allowance depends on academic institution; and
- A one-time settlement allowance of SGD200 is provided upon arrival in Singapore.
The scholarship award will be evaluated annually and is contingent upon satisfactory academic achievement.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should:
- Verify that all prerequisites for university admission are met, including participation in any mandatory entrance exams;
- Apply for admission concurrently to Singapore’s Institute of Higher Learning – National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore Management University (SMU), or Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) – and adhere to the university’s admission deadlines and guidelines;
- Possess strong leadership qualities, as well as academic and extracurricular (CCA) accomplishments; and
- Have either taken the SAT or made preparations to do so.
