The Jonas Clark Scholarship is given to new students who have demonstrated the capacity to question established norms and bring about fundamental changes in the world.

Given this name in honor of our company’s founder, Jonas Clark, who had the vision to support an educational model with the goal of producing students and citizens who are fearless and free thinkers.

Brief History About Clark University

Clark University is a prestigious private institution of higher learning located in Worcester, Massachusetts. Clark University was one of the first contemporary research universities in the United States. It was founded in 1887 and received a significant donation from its namesake Jonas Gilman Clark, who was a well-known industrialist.

After beginning as a school for just graduate students, Clark University admitted its first undergraduates in the year 1902 and admitted its first female students in the year 1942.

The institution now provides students with the opportunity to construct their own technical majors and participate in pre-professional programs, in addition to providing 46 different majors, minors, and emphases in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and engineering.

Clark University is a member of the Higher Education Consortium of Central Massachusetts, which enables students to cross-register for classes at other local institutions such as Worcester Polytechnic Institute and the College of the Holy Cross. The university is known for its programs in the fields of psychology, geography, physics, biology, and entrepreneurship.

As a liberal arts–based research university, Clark University makes important research opportunities available to its students, especially at the undergraduate level through LEEP project funding. Clark is also respected for its environment as the second smallest university among the top 66 national universities by U.S. News & World Report and as one of 40 Colleges That Change Lives.

Clark University is an R2 doctoral university with high research activities. It left the Association of American Universities in 1999.

The Graduate School, the Graduate School of Management, the Graduate School of Geography, the Frances L. Hiatt School of Psychology, the Gustaf H. Carlson School of Chemistry, the Adam Institute for Urban Teaching and School Practice, the International Development, Community and Environment (IDCE), and the School of Professional Studies offer graduate and professional programs.

Clark University competes in 17 NCAA Division III varsity sports as the Clark Cougars. Intramural and club sports are also available.

Panera Bread, the American Psychological Association, and the American Physical Society were formed by university academics and alumni, as were modern rocketry, the wind chill factor, and the birth control pill.

Clark University’s alumni have received three Pulitzer Prizes, multiple Suey Awards, and an Emmy.

32 majors are offered. Clark University has 57 programs in 34 countries. Clark University has 212 full-time faculty, which is 10:1. 94% of Clark’s faculty have doctorates.

Clark University is also accredited by NECHE. In recent years, the university has been praised for its geography and psychology departments.

Rugg’s Recommendations on Colleges ranked the university #1 for undergraduate geography, while other publications consistently rank it in the top 10. The geography department’s Fifth-Year Free program includes a graduate-level GIS degree.
