UNIDEL JUPEB & Foundation Programme Admission 2026/2027: Direct Entry to 200 Level — Full Guide

On this page
For candidates who did not attain the required JAMB UTME cut-off score or are otherwise ineligible for the regular 100-Level admission process, University of Delta (UNIDEL) offers an authorised pathway to 200-Level Direct Entry through the nationally recognised Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) Foundation Studies Programme. This guide covers everything you need to know: what JUPEB is, eligibility criteria, available subject combinations, fees, the application process, and how to gain direct admission after completing the programme.
What Is JUPEB?
The Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) is an independent national examinations body established under Nigerian university education law. It is accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and operates in partnership with over 80 Nigerian universities. The JUPEB programme is a one-year (two-semester) foundation course that equips candidates with university-level academic content in three subjects relevant to their faculty of interest. Upon successfully passing the final JUPEB board examinations with a minimum qualifying score, candidates proceed to apply for 200-Level Direct Entry admission at any JUPEB-affiliated university through JAMB Direct Entry.
University of Delta is an affiliated JUPEB centre, meaning candidates enrolled in the UNIDEL JUPEB programme receive their training on campus in Agbor and, upon qualifying, receive preferential consideration for UNIDEL direct entry admission.

Why Choose JUPEB Over Re-sitting JAMB?
- Skip 100 Level entirely: Successful JUPEB graduates gain direct admission into 200 Level, saving one full academic year.
- No UTME required: You do not need to re-sit JAMB UTME to gain direct entry to UNIDEL through JUPEB.
- University campus environment: You study on the UNIDEL campus in Agbor, experiencing university life while still in the foundation year.
- Higher specialisation: JUPEB subject combinations prepare you specifically for your chosen faculty, giving you a significant academic head-start over regular 100-Level students.
- Better success rate: Students entering 200 Level through JUPEB often outperform regular-entry peers academically, having already been exposed to university-standard content.

Eligibility Criteria
To be admitted into the UNIDEL JUPEB programme, you must fulfil all of the following:
- O'Level Credits: A minimum of five (5) credit passes in relevant WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB subjects — including English Language — obtained in not more than two sittings.
- Awaiting Result (AR): Candidates currently awaiting O'Level results are eligible to apply. Final admission into 200 Level will, however, be provisional until full results are verified.
- Age: Minimum age of 16 years at the time of registration. No maximum age limit.
- No JAMB UTME required: Unlike the regular undergraduate admission, JUPEB applicants do not need a JAMB UTME score. However, upon completion of the JUPEB programme, candidates must obtain a JAMB Direct Entry form (cost: ₦3,500) to formally apply to 200 Level through JAMB DE.
Programme Duration, Structure & Fees
The UNIDEL JUPEB programme runs for two semesters (approximately 9–10 months), typically from October to July. Students attend formal lectures, tutorials, and practical sessions on the University of Delta campus in Agbor.

JUPEB Grading & Qualifying for 200 Level
JUPEB results are graded on a points scale (A to E) across your three subjects. The aggregate JUPEB point score determines your eligibility for 200 Level Direct Entry:
- A = 5 points (equivalent to A in A-Level)
- B = 4 points
- C = 3 points
- D = 2 points
- E = 1 point (minimum passing grade)
- F = 0 points (Fail — candidate cannot proceed with this subject for DE)
A maximum of 15 points is achievable (5 × 3 subjects). To qualify for most undergraduate programmes at UNIDEL, candidates need a minimum of 6 points across the three subjects, with no subject below grade E. Highly competitive programmes (e.g., Medicine, Law) typically require 9–12 points minimum.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q: Can I do JUPEB and still sit JAMB UTME in 2027?
A: Yes. You are free to simultaneously prepare for and sit the 2027 JAMB UTME while enrolled in the JUPEB programme. Many students use both pathways as a backup strategy — whichever produces a higher entry grade is used for 200 Level application.
Q: Is the JUPEB certificate recognised everywhere in Nigeria?
A: Yes. JUPEB certificates are NUC-accredited and accepted by all JUPEB-affiliated universities in Nigeria for 200 Level Direct Entry. Over 80 universities participate in the JUPEB scheme nationally, including DELSU, UNIBEN, UNILAG, and other major institutions.
Q: What happens if I fail one or two JUPEB subjects?
A: You may still qualify for departments that accept partial passes, or you can re-sit the failed JUPEB subject in the next available sitting. Candidates who fail all three subjects will not qualify for 200 Level entry through JUPEB and will need to explore other pathways (e.g., re-sitting UTME or ND).
Q: Can I switch subject combinations after registration?
A: Subject combination changes are only permitted within the first two weeks of the programme, subject to availability of slots in the desired combination group. Contact the UNIDEL Foundation Studies Office in Agbor immediately if you wish to make a switch.
