The MSc Motorsport Scholarship Programme, a new programme launched with the support of the Ignite Partnership, aims to encourage individuals of Black or mixed Black ethnicity who aspire to pursue a master’s degree in racing (or a related eligible course).
You are eligible to apply if you are in your final year of an undergraduate degree programme or have graduated within the past three years and meet all other eligibility requirements.

Objective of the programme
The Scholarship Programme was created in response to a specific proposal in the first report of the Hamilton Commission, titled Accelerated Change: Enhancing the Representation of Black People in UK Motorsport. Sir Lewis Hamilton HonFREng and the Royal Academy of Engineering established The Hamilton Commission to address the underrepresentation of Black individuals in UK motorsport and STEM fields.
Our programme offers financial and professional assistance to Black and Black-mixed students pursuing a master’s degree in motorsport or a related field. Up to ten awards will be presented over the course of two years.

Scholarship Benefits
The purpose of the scholarships is to remedy the underrepresentation of Black or Black-mixed engineers and accelerate the rate of change.
Award recipients will receive:
- Up to £25,000 in funding to pay full tuition and living expenses for a Motorsport (or related) MSc programme.
- Events devoted to training and networking with Motorsport representatives
- devoted motorsports adventures
- Graduate engineering engagement programme providing access to career training and support (GEEP)
- Access to an online community forum for collaboration and communication with other recipients and programme backers.
As a result of finishing the programme, recipients will possess:
- Knowledge of the motorsport industry, including skill needs, career options, and pathways
- Improved competence and self-assurance in completing job applications as well as performance in selection and interview processes, including assessment centres.
- Professional and networking capital increased
- Graduation confers membership in the programme’s alumni community.
- Access to resources and planned efforts to enhance the employability of engineers

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants for the programme must:
- Be of Black or Black-Mixed ethnic background
- Be deemed a student from the United Kingdom, be eligible for Home fee status, and have the right to live and work in the United Kingdom.
- Applying or having applied to one of the approved Master’s degree programmes mentioned below for the 2023-2024 academic year.

Candidates must either:
- According to the prerequisites for your selected Master’s programme, you must be in your last year of an engineering or engineering-related undergraduate programme.
Or:
- If you are a graduate, you must have graduated within the past three years in order to enrol in the Master’s programme of your choice.
Candidates must first satisfy the eligibility requirements listed above. The scholarship awardees shall be chosen at the sole discretion of the selection committee, with preference given to applicants who can demonstrate socioeconomic hardship.

- During the last year of your undergraduate education, did your university or the government of the United Kingdom provide you a scholarship, bursary, or other form of financial aid based on your personal or family financial circumstances?
For graduates:
- Are you currently receiving government assistance? Applicants will be required to declare whether or not they are already receiving any state assistance (Housing Benefit, Jobseeker’s Allowance, Child Tax Credit, etc.), including any that will end as a result of their studies.
Please note that if your application is successful, you may be required to show documentation of such financing in the form of an official award notification letter or, in the case of state benefits, an official government document.
