Playford Trust / Honours Scholarships at Flinders University 2023

The Playford Trust, in collaboration with the three South Australian public universities, awards a total of 12 scholarships of $7000 per year to South Australians planning to study at Honours level in the Trust’s key areas.

Each of the three colleges will get four scholarships.

Students must be pursuing an Honours degree at the University of Adelaide, Flinders University, or the University of South Australia in one of the Trust’s key areas:

  • Advanced manufacturing and new technologies
  • Water, energy and climate change
  • Agriculture and food production
  • Space and defence technology
  • Mining and resources development
  • Health sciences and enabling technologies.

About the Flinders University

In Adelaide, South Australia, there is a public university called Flinders University. It was established in 1966 and is called in honor of the explorer and surveyor of the South Australian coastline in the early 19th century, Matthew Flinders.

Flinders is a verdant university[citation needed] and a member of the Innovative Research Universities (IRU) Group, ranking 10-16 in Australia and 36th in the world among institutions established less than 50 years. The institution established a cross-disciplinary method of teaching, and its faculties of medicine and the humanities are among the top 10 in the country.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be:

  • Ready to begin Honours at the University of Adelaide, Flinders University, or the University of South Australia in the Trust’s key areas
  • An Australian citizen or a permanent residence visa holder living in South Australia
  • Intended to spend a large portion of their career in South Australia, or who are likely to benefit the state
  • A high achiever having an outstanding undergraduate record
  • Of good character. Students with shown leadership potential will be given priority.
