About the Newcastle University

Newcastle University (Officially, the University of Newcastle upon Tyne) is a public research university based in Newcastle upon Tyne, England’s North-East.

A School of Medicine and Surgery (later renamed the College of Medicine) was formed in 1834, while the College of Physical Science (later renamed Armstrong College) was founded in 1871.

The Durham Colleges formed the other component of the University of Durham. In 1937, the colleges of Newcastle combined to establish King’s College. In 1963, as a result of a parliamentary act, King’s College was transformed into the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

Eligibility Criteria

The following application types are eligible under this programme:

    • asylum seekers
    • Children of asylum seekers and unaccompanied asylum-seeking youngsters (e.g., under-18-year-old migrants)*
    • Applicants holding refugee standing (ineligible for Student Finance government funding)

*Applicants who have been awarded Humanitarian Protection or Discretionary Leave to Stay as a result of an asylum application, or the children of such a parent, will also be considered.

  • Candidates must reside in the United Kingdom at the time they submit an application for consideration under the scheme. Preference will be given to North East of England applicants (Tyne and Wear, County Durham, Northumberland, Cleveland and North Cumbria).
  • Candidates must have applied for a degree programme at Newcastle University. Preference will be given to those seeking their first degree.
  • Their expected grades must meet the requirements for admission to the relevant degree programme.
