It is the first time that Canada’s national museum has been constructed anywhere other than in the National Capital Region. At The Forks, which has served as a gathering place for more than 6,000 years, the Canadian Museum of History and Archives (CMHR) emerges from the prairie land in Winnipeg, Manitoba, which is the geographic center of Canada.

Purpose of Position
The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) was founded on the principle that an increased awareness of, and adherence to, universally recognized human rights can act as a constructive catalyst for change throughout the world.
The Translator-Editor will provide assistance for our joint efforts to develop a culture in the workplace that is innovative, inclusive, and equitable, and that is centered on motivating others to take action.
The Translator-Editor is responsible for ensuring that the Museum satisfies all statutory requirements in order to provide the Museum experience in both official languages.
This position reports to the Director of Public Affairs and works closely with the Translator as well as the Official Languages Advisor.
They will assure the quality of communications by editing and translating written materials aimed at internal and external audiences across a wide variety of formats and platforms.
These services will be provided for written materials.
The person who fills this position will have excellent communication skills, including the ability to think critically and creatively, and will approach their work in a cooperative manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Contributes to the development of a culture that values anti-racist principles and accountable behavior, as well as respect, equity, inclusion, and innovation as core values.
- Provides translation, primarily from English into French, for a wide variety of written materials including but not limited to administrative documents, media releases, exhibition texts, financial and corporate reports, social media posts, marketing products, video transcriptions, and speeches.
- Reviews written materials in English and French to ensure consistency with the Museum style guide.
- Examines texts that have been translated from the outside or by other resources located within the organization.
- Ensures the highest possible level of quality and correctness in all French content by reviewing and editing it.
- Participates in regular team meetings and work meetings across departments on projects that require translation help to ensure a comprehensive knowledge of the objectives and concerns involved in the project.

- After the layout is complete, he revises, edits, and proofreads the English and French text (print and digital).
Manages various requests for translation while maintaining a consistent system for tracking and prioritizing those requests. - Takes part in training offered by both the industry and other organizations in order to make certain that the Museum’s written materials are continually updated to reflect current best practices on inclusive language.
- Contributes to the upkeep of the CMHR style guide as well as other guidelines and tools used in the production of written content for the Museum.
- Contributes to the preparation of reports for the company about its conformance with the Official Languages Act.
Required Qualifications
- A degree from an accredited university in translation, or an equivalent amount of relevant experience combined with education.
- 2-4 years of experience providing translation support in an environment or field that is comparable.
- a dedication to the fundamental concepts of human rights, such as respect, equity, inclusion, and dignity for all people.
- A background in proofreading, editing, and translating written content for a variety of audiences.
- familiarity with the Microsoft Office product suite as well as SDL Trados Studio or another type of translation software is required.
- Capability to communicate well in both of the official languages, both verbally and in writing.
- Capability to observe complete discretion at all times, along with tact and diplomacy in dealing with all situations.
- Powerful skills in time management and the capacity to prioritize, multitask, and work under pressure are required.
- Capacity to operate both independently and cooperatively within the context of a setting that values teamwork.
